Language

German is a valued specialist area at Marmion Primary School and the language has been taught at the school for the last twenty-five years. Students from Year 1 to Year 6 receive one fifty-five minute lesson per week. Within the course, there is a strong emphasis on speaking and pronunciation. Oral work, songs and authentic material are used to make learning enjoyable and meaningful. Reading and writing are emphasised more in the upper years. Selected students or classes are chosen to participate in a German assembly each year, and cultural elements are also included, to give the students a better understanding of the German speaking people and the way that they live.
